Lancashire Mind

Lancashire Mind is a charity focused on improving mental health and wellbeing across Lancashire.

Background

This website was built during my time at Carbon Creative as a collaboration with my colleagues there.

The aim was to build a clear and easy-to-use website that helps people understand what support is available and how to access it. It’s all about making mental health feel more approachable and less overwhelming.

The challenge

A lot of people struggle to find the right mental health support, or don’t reach out at all. This can be due to stigma, lack of awareness, or simply not knowing where to start.

The challenge was to present quite a lot of information in a way that feels simple, welcoming, and easy to navigate, without making it feel heavy or confusing.

The solution

The website brings everything together in one place and focuses on clarity and accessibility.

It includes:

  • Simple explanations of available services
  • Easy navigation so users can find help quickly
  • Clear calls to action
  • Content that feels supportive, not overwhelming

How it was built

The site was built using WordPress, with Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) to give more control over the content and layout.

WooCommerce was used for the shop section, allowing products to be easily managed and purchased directly through the site.

Using the in-house Carbon WordPress theme as a starting point, I created flexible content sections so pages can be easily updated without needing to touch code. This makes it much easier for the team to manage content and keep things up to date.

From a development point of view, I focused on:

  • Building reusable components with ACF
  • Keeping the layout clean and consistent
  • Making sure everything is responsive across devices
  • Keeping performance smooth and load times low

The outcome

The final result is a website that makes it easier for people to understand their options and find support. It helps encourage people to reach out sooner, raises awareness of mental health services and makes support more accessible.
